Recently returned to Florida after an 8 year spell in Tennessee, is Italian-born artist Mara Trumbo who, together with her husband Robert, decided to spend their “Golden Years” in Ellenton, Manatee County, Mara was born in Italy, grew up in Rhodesia, a British Colony in Southern Africa now renamed Zimbabwe, and immigrated into the USA in 1995, making Florida home for the first12 years in America.
Mara had no formal training in art except for school art classes in her youth, but her passion for drawing, painting and sculpting, has prompted her to take whatever workshops she could afford between her busy career as a travel consultant and being a mom of three daughters. Mara’s greatest inspiration since her move to the USA has come from following TV art programs on PBS and attending workshops with some of TV’s best known artists.
She now enjoys oil painting floral compositions in the style of Kathwren and Gary Jenkins, landscapes as taught by The Florida Highwaymen as well as Brenda Harris’ style in acrylics. Learning seascapes, Mara was inspired by William Alexander , Bill Blackman and Bob Ross in oils. She also loves teaching the folkloristic acrylic One-Stroke Painting of Donna Dewberry and Decorative Painting alla Priscilla Hauser. The artist however values her individuality too much to emulate any one technique, and she often combines all these teachings to form a style of her own. Her love of art has also extended to learning the skills of hand-thrown pottery and China painting. Mara is a Certified Decorative Painting and International Fine Art Instructor.
One of Mara’s preferred subjects in both oil and acrylic painting is the portrayal of flowers and birds. The variety offered by both Florida and Tennessee, have provided her with constant inspiration. Mother Nature is her Muse and she loves sharing with her students all she has learnt and also taught herself over the years.
Mara’s art works have been exhibited in Johannesburg South Africa in 1995, at the Sarasota Visual Art Center in 1996, Gulf Gate Artist Expo in 1997, Lake Placid Caladium Arts and Crafts since 2002, and Rugby and Knoxville, Tennessee from 2006 to 2014 with many of her entries winning top awards at County Fairs. Abroad Mara has exhibited at the Mostra Artistica in Bolsena Italy in 2003, 2006 and 2011, Hobby Show in Rome 2008 and 2009, and Spain in 2013, while continuing to teach wherever opportunity takes her.
